The tundra can be a very stark landscape - frozen for a large portion of the year and its subsoil permanently frozen. That is until you take a closer look around.
Read MoreGrizzly Lake Trail is possibly the most popular hike and backpack trip in Tombstone Territorial Park. It’s for good reasons too.
Read MoreThere's only one campground in Tombstone Territorial Park and by luck we found a pretty nice boondocking site about 12 miles from the campground.
Read MorePhotos of Tombstone Territorial Park caught my eye. Its jagged peaks that reached straight into the sky and unbelievably colorful rolling tundra. Just Google “Tombstone Territorial Park” and you’ll want to book the next flight to Yukon. On top of that, the park area is referred to as “Patagonia of the North”. For me, Tombstone was going to be the climax of my time in Yukon.
Read MoreThe drive from Whitehorse to Tombstone Territorial Park is far, like 400 miles far. That’s too much mileage for us to make it in one go, especially knowing the Dempster Highway (which brings you to the park) is especially slow going in an RV. So we stopped at Five Finger Rapids and Midnight Dome on our way to Tombstone.
Read MoreWe had this kickass plan for hiking Sheep Creek trail in Kluane National Park. During our first trip to the Tachal Dhal Visitor Center, the ranger mentioned that we could make a loop out of the trail instead of hiking it as an out and back. We were excited to finally hike a loop trail in Yukon.
Read MoreWhile at Kluane National Park we had been spending time in the southern end of the park. But there were two things we wanted to do in the section of the park north of Haines Junction: see Kluane Lake and hike Sheep Creek trail. Except we weren't expecting to see the lake this way...
Read MoreSamuel Glacier is no doubt one of our top 5 places we visited while we were in Yukon. This is a place we insist you check out if you’re in the area. Though keep in mind that Samuel Glacier isn’t actually in Yukon, but in Tatshenshini-Alsek Provincial Park, the most northwestern tip of British Columbia.
Read MoreWhile Auriol Trail isn’t one of the best hikes in the park, it sure felt nice when we completed the 9 mile roundtrip hike in less time than it had taken us to finish some of the other shorter length hikes we’ve done in the area.
Read MoreHave you ever looked at a mountain, thought to yourself how it looks impossible to hike to the top, and if there were a way it would be really sketchy? But then realize that’s the mountain you’re going to be hiking and then think "Oh shit"? That’s exactly what happened to us with King’s Throne.
Read MoreIs it crazy that I would drive all the way back to Yukon just to stay at this boondock site again?
Read MoreHaines Junction is a small town of 593 people established back in 1942 during the construction of the Alaska Highway. It’s two hours southwest of Whitehorse and home to Kluane National Park and thundereggs.
Read MoreThe mountain bike trails at Montana Mountain are all on one face of the mountain (except Mountain Hero), and the singletrack is almost all marked as down-only. Think of it like a ski hill with just one lift: cyclists climb up the gravel road, then choose their singletrack route down.

Read MoreDespite having two tents with us (don’t judge), we unfortunately don’t use them very often. So you can imagine our excitement when we found a perfect place to set up a tent to camp. We initially wanted to park the Toaster in that spot, but because it was tucked away in the woods it was too shady for our solar panels.
Read MoreMarsh Lake is about 30 minutes southeast of Whitehorse right off of the Alaska Highway. There is a residential subdivision at Marsh Lake where we stayed. Some of the houses are right on the lake while others are behind those houses, we were at one of the latter, so it was an easy walk to the beach.
Read MoreWe only gave ourselves 4 days to drive 1,167 miles from Jasper to Whitehorse because we got delayed leaving Missoula, MT by 4 days, had to be in Whitehorse by a certain date, and decided to spend the majority of our free time in Banff and Jasper National Park. This meant we didn't really have the time to get out of the truck and explore, but when we did we weren't disappointed.
